Regarding roles in combat, the LMG is more of a support/crowd control weapon due to its stopping power and ability to damage targets in an area, though it's also a solid choice for an offensive weapon against large targets - bearing in mind that the LMG's stopping power no longer comes into play with larger-than-human-sized targets. So what are the benefits to the assualt rifle? H3rr_Trigger
As far as I can see, the noob friendly LMGs DICE have provided are assault rifles with more bullets. They have similar reload times, similar range and accuracy, more damage in some cases, hold more bullets and dont overheat when spamming. So what is the benefit to the assault rifle? As far as I can see, the only benefit to playing assault is the revive paddle.

I don't think that LMGs are as accurate as assault rifles, whatever you may think.

The lmg's are most effecient when deployed and used with suppression+ perk. PrometheusRC
assault rifles are more for 'on the go', close to medium ranged combat.

neither is the reload time.

assault rifles have more accurate hip fire, thus making them better to fire while on the move. LMGs and ARs have about the same accuracy when aimed through sights.

Dont underestimate the revive paddle. It is the most overpowered weapon in the game and one that nobody complains about. xaven1978
I'd rather have 30 bullets and a revive paddle than 200 bullets and lots of explosives

Agreed about the hipfire, I suppose ARs do have that one advantage. juup
But long range - they are just as accurate when using scopes, and short burst fire - not some 200 bullet spam like you see some people doing

Storhamster said: Only first shot. the lmg needs like 3-9 shots to stabilize with the foregrip, while the assult rifle only need 2-4 (it's fired in bursts anyways) Also worth to mention the LMG bullets fire at slower bullet speeds and have more bullet drop / damage reduction over distance

I see no difference between say MG36 or M416 both just as accurate for me + MG36 just has more rounds. I deployed PKP/M60 once thinking of it as a suppression device - even when on bipod it was useless innacurate just as when shot form hip. LMGs deployed on bipod should make an impenetrable wall of lead which thay can't this renders them ARs with bigger mags. Just compare the DMG of weapons. AR are pretty much the same as LMGs. LMG should start with 40 DMg points going to 60. This will sadly never be the case.

Yeah I notice a massive difference in accuracy between the two at times, especially when I've had a long period playing with the LMGs. There are times with the LMGs where even when you're aiming at someone at short to medium range the bullets just wildly miss my target. Assault rifles are super accurate in comparison. Obviously the rate of fire between the two weapon types are different too.

Fast reload, less recoil The benefits of the assault rifle lie mainly in the class it comes with (ie. your gadgets) since this is a class based game, not a gun based game 25 Weapon Dmg For Lmgs Free

Reload time, accuracy (minus LMG bipod deployed), and mobility/maneuverability. LMGs weigh right around 25-30+ lbs; You're not going to be running, gunning, and spraying rounds accurately at anything without some time of support (no pun intended) - whether that be the bipod, prone position, or kneeling. The assault rifles give you an advantage over the LMGs in this regard - again, mobility and maneuverability.

There's a big difference. kaZm83
LMG's are classified as close to medium range. Assault rifles are classified as medium to long range. What this means is that the RBS is bigger for the LMG's. RBS + Recoil = total spread. An assault rifle will be ALOT more accurate at longer ranges. A LMG with a bipod will negate just about all of it's recoil, but it will still have RBS.

OP where are the stats to back stuff up? Ah wait you dont have those. Xylvion
Nice trolling moron You 'think' you are just as accurate lmao

LMG's start firing a bit slower even if you hit the left mouse button at teh exact same time. Assault rifles are a lot more accurate, they're also faster to reload, LMG's takes forever. as a support you don't have medpacks so you can't heal yourself, hard when you try to capture a flag, say you take down 2-3 people and got 5% hp left, then another 2 shows up, they just have to hit you once and you're dead. however, you barely have to reload your LMG's so that's a plus I guess ;x
